Super-light 223 Carlsson wheel for the Mercedes-Benz

Powerful cars need wheels of first-class quality and strength that can easily cope with the high weights and the associated maximum axle loads. Moreover, the ideal wheels for M, G and R Class models from Mercedes-Benz should also be light. Carlsson wheels combine these technical aspects with an attractive design. For example, the 2/11 Brilliant Edition wheel, which does not adhere to the rule that ‘form should follow function’ but goes a step further with form, i.e., design, building an extraordinary symbiosis with function. And now it is also available in 22″.
An unusually noble look
The Carlsson 2/11 Brilliant Edition ranks among the most attractive models in the wheel sector. The special surface finish and paintwork in ‘Brilliant Silver’ give the wheel an unusually noble look. The 11-spoke design radiates lightness and ensures an extravagant and sporting appearance for all cars. The centre and the wheel spider are permanently welded together.
Durable and tough
However, it is not only its good looks that make the 2/11 BE such a brilliant wheel. Carlsson is the only Mercedes tuner to offer wheels with a stainless steel rim base to guarantee the extraordinary appearance for the entire life of the wheel. Stainless steel stands for durability and unbroken customer delight in the product. The stainless-steel finish on the outboard flange of the Carlsson wheel ensures, for example, that it cannot corrode as a result of stone impact, which results in ugly spots that ruin the overall appearance.
Less weight for greater safety and comfort
The bigger an aluminium wheel, the lower is the advantage of the material used in terms of weight. To overcome this problem, Carlsson uses forging technology to produce extra-light, high-tech wheels. “The wheels of a tuning company must be lighter than a comparable standard wheel other-wise they offer no additional benefits”, says Carlsson General Manager Rolf Hartge explaining the company’s policy of combining outstanding looks with technical benefits and a high suitability for everyday use.
Through the use of forged wheel rims, Carlsson has succeeded in reducing the weight of the new 22″ version of the 2/11 BE wheel to less than 19 kg. Light¬weight wheels tend to tramp less (reduced unsprung weight) and thus offer optimum road contact. The result of permanent grip: higher cornering forces, greater driving safety and a higher level of comfort compared to fully cast wheels, which weigh around 20 % more. Despite the stainless steel protection for the outboard flange, Carlsson has been able to achieve this weight advantage by making the stainless-steel coating extremely thin. And this is one of the main reasons that the Carlsson 2/11 BE wheel can truly be described as a high-tech product.
The benefits of the multi-spoke design
The multi-spoke design of the 2/11 BE represents the best-possible solution for a lightweight wheel. The forces acting on the wheel are transferred perfectly evenly to the wheel disc by the 11 spokes. Thus, thick walls are unnecessary and the wheel weight can be kept down. An important advantage, especially in the case of larger vehicles, is the excellent brake ventilation and, therefore, improved braking performance.
The 2/11 BE Carlsson wheel is now available in the dimensions 10 x 22 ET 60 and 11 x 22 ET 60 for the following Mercedes-Benz models: M Class (W164), R Class (W251) and G Class (X164).
